Seventeen Aisling O’Connor is about to make the biggest sacrifice of all: returning to the prestigious boarding school, Beaumont Academy. Her sister has been missing for almost six months, but Aisling is determined to follow the only clue she has and ‘Find the BES.’
But can she trust them to find her sister and stop more students from vanishing into thin air?
Can they trust her?
The Beaumont Egalitarian Society begun as a story on the Episode Interactive platform for the ‘Heroic’ contest. Five ‘episodes’ were written and published, and although Jennifer moved onto other Episode creations after the contest, she couldn’t let go of the idea.
Before Episode, however, the original idea was spawned when Jennifer first discovered the Japanese (and other cultures’) legend of the true power of a camera.
As a child, one particular episode of Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids caught her attention, exploring the dangers of photography. Decades later, it prompted her to further learn about it, spurring on her imagination.
Combined with her love of Tasmania and history, including a statue of Lady Jane Franklin, whom Jane Beaumont was inspired by, and her secret wish her own high school had a secret underground society, a story was born.
It would take a few years post writing and editing the manuscript (including many publisher rejections) before Jennifer would finally grow the courage to publish her novel, and long again before she would share her achievement with family, friends, and bookstores. At several points, she truly believed she would never be a published author.
When tragedy struck her family in September 2023, however, she swallowed her fears and got stuck into production so her father could see and hold her work. Thankfully, he made a full recovery and the rest is history.
Finally, her ultimate dreams came true:
To hold her printed book in her hands. ☑️
To surprise her parents with it as a birthday/Christmas gift (she may have jumped the gun on that one...) ☑️
To see her book in a library and/or bookstore (thank you to The Library of Tasmania and The Hobart Bookstore for making this happen!) ☑️
"Intriguing and attention catching.”

“The writer does a great job building the world and the charecters. The charecters and setting were awesome and the story itself kept me turning pages until it was done. I really enjoyed this book especially the writer's style. Looking forward to more!”
-Angelo R. Lopez, The Goalie
"Beautifully written and I couldn’t put it down until I finished the book. Nice to read a book that is set in Hobart Tasmania.”
