YA Mystery and Fantasy Author
Jennifer is an Australian author of Young Adult mystery and fantasy novels.
Her best-known works include The Beaumont Egalitarian Society, Call Me Rumpel, The Kitsune’s Lullaby, and White Wave.
“Your daughter is going to be a writer,” her first-grade teacher once told her mother.
She was holding up her scrapbook filled with several pages of stories, all written in a language and font only she could truly understand.
Little did any of them know that her prediction would one day come true.
Her interest in writing continued throughout the rest of her time at Warragamba Public School (an amazing school that not only would she return to teach at for a year, but where she made incredible life-long friendships), but not so much during high school. Caroline Chisholm College was fantastic—writing endless essays and deciphering Shakespeare's plays not so much.
Always with a cheeky smile, she had her big sister to keep her in line...
Jennifer would first delve into primary school teaching, having received a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Teaching with a major in history and English.
Whilst undertaking her degrees and subsequent years teaching primary-aged students, she spent most of her free time writing short stories.
Embarrassingly, these began with FanFiction (where she wrote over 200 stories under the penname whitetiger91) and quickly turned into original stories entered into various writing competitions. Her big break came through writing for Episode Interactive.
Her family, particularly her parents, have been a constant source of support in her writing journey (even if it took some of them by surprise). She may complain about having 'middle child syndrome', but growing up with four siblings (two older sisters, and a younger brother and sister) has always been a blessing. Even better, she loves to brag about having over forty first cousins. Her favourite memories growing up mostly involve seeing her aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents after long road trips to western New South Wales.
Her many pets are also part of her family, including her four cats, dog, six chickens, three geese, and a menagerie of unofficial 'pets' including her possums, quolls, pademelons, and a resident grey kangaroo.
Jennifer is proud to advocate for diverse groups, including the neurodiverse and disabled community, in her writing. This includes, among others, a focus on characters with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Down Syndrome.
One of her upcoming novels, The Monsters We Hide (also an Episode story), focuses on the challenges she's faced personally with Congenital Hypothyroidism through the eyes of the main character, Elise Knight. In Jennifer's specific case, she was born without a thyroid and an abnormally fast metabolism, resulting in sometimes being overtired and underweight and leading to many misunderstandings and assumptions growing up.
The only people not welcome is MAGA. What is happening now in the USA is atrocious.
Delve into a world of adventure...
The soundtrack included on this website is a mix of songs representing Jennifer and/or her stories. In particular, Stand By Me (Ben E. King) and Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison) are both songs that hold a special place in her heart; they featured (among other classics) on the seven-hour-long road trips she took with her family to visit her nan, pop, and other family in Warren, NSW and will always serve a reminder of those treasured memories.
